Richard "Dick" Derrett


Dick was someone who played soccer in Winnipeg in the 1980's until he had to stop due to a knee injury. He was also one of the founders of the St Vital Flames in the early eighties. 
In 1982, Dick then decided to join the Manitoba Soccer Referee Association and become a referee. 

December 10, 1991, Dick was appointed to the National list and became a National Instructor/Assessor not long after. He officiated many games for the Winnipeg Fury, a team in the Canada Soccer League. Apart from being a referee for numerous CSL games, Provincial Cup games and National tournament games, Dick also was responsible for running the Golden Boy tournament in Winnipeg. 

During his time in the MSRA he became President and was also a Board member. He was employed by the MSA, running the Referee department. Dick also was the Director of Referees for the Winnipeg Soccer Association and gave his time free time to help develop the game and young players/ referees in Gimli, Manitoba.  

Dick was honored with the Outstanding Contribution to the Game Award in 2015 and was honored with a life membership to the Manitoba Soccer Referee Association in 2000. He was also given the Charlie Ironside Dedication Award in 2008 by WYSA, the President's award by MSA in 2013 and also received an Award in 2013-14 from Winnipeg Phoenix FC for growing the game in the district.  
In 2022, he was inducted into the Manitoba Soccer Hall of Fame.
